Anxiously Awaiting the Return of the Mack

The picture to the left accurately describes why I never had a girlfriend in High School. I could blame the flattop. I could blame the 5 different colors of sweatpants I had for each day of the week. I could even blame my torrid love affair with mathematics. But I do not blame any of those things. Instead I blame Mark Morrison. I purchased the "Return of the Mack" CD single the summer after my 6th grade year. From that moment forth I defined cool as being Mark Morrison. In case you missed the blip on the radar that was "Return of the Mack," here is the video to enjoy as you barrel your way through this blog.

As embarrassing as it may be I listened to this song before the first day of school my 7th grade year. Then again my 8th grade year, and 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. Somehow I thought Mark Morrison would transform me into the cool kid. Each year it failed. But, like a
moth to a flame, I could not remove myself from the smooth hip hop beat that Mark Morrison laid down in the Spring of 1996. An interesting fact about the video was that is was the last time that a leather jacket was
successfully incorporated into a music video. Coupled with the onslaught of Blackstreet's "No Diggity,"
Next's "Too Close," and the emergence of Nelly, my social relevance in the music scene had seen
better days, not unlike my red Thursday sweats. I may never hop off the Mark Morrison band wagon, part
of me thinks he still may drop that second single that propels him to Ja Rule stature. Until that day
I will continue to listen to "Return of the Mack" before every relevant and meaningful moment of my
life.

Conclusion: Music has the power to evoke emotions, the emotions evoked by Return of the Mack
are new beginnings and dismal failures. But Mark will always sing his "comeback song," encouraging
to let all the people, that I am back up in the game tryin' thangs to do my swang, letting all the people
know I am back to rock the show.
